Nita Harris from St. Louis, MO (United Stated) a basketball player who’s focused on helping find a cure for breast cancer and give back to the youth wherever it maybe. I recently learned about basketball in Indonesia and wouldn’t mind playing there. If I or other Americas can get the opportunity to play there, basketball in Indonesia can only get better and bring more competition. Only way to go is up. Bring more notoriety to Indonesia basketball.
Since when you fell in love with basketball?
I fell in love with basketball when I was in high school. That’s when I started taking it serious. Knowing my grandmother couldn’t afford to pay for me to go to college, I started to use it to my advantage. Knowing college could pay my way for schooling.
Who introduce you to the game?
No one introduced me to the game. I started playing basketball at the age of five on the school playground. Me and my childhood best friend played every sport there was to play in elementary school. Volleyball, ran track, softball, basketball, tennis.
What’s the reason you play basketball until today?
The reason I still play basketball until today is because I still love the game. Basketball allowed my to go places I never thought I could/would go. Basketball payed for me to go to school. I couldn’t give up the game that paved the way for me to experienced things I never thought I would. Basketball is also an outlet for me. When you’re on the court it puts you in a peaceful place. No worries.
What do you do for a living ? play at which club or team?
I use to do property preservation. Now I have my own foundation where I’m bringing awareness to cancer and giving back to the youth. I don’t play for a team at the moment. Hopefully that will change soon.
Do you have a message for younger kids who wants to play basketball?
Yes, I do! There will be obstacles, there will be doubters, there will be mistakes, but with hard work there are no limits. You can have/do anything in life if you are willing to give up the belief that you can’t have/do it!! Never let anyone tell you what you can or can’t do. You’re the one who has to live YOUR life.
What do you see in the future for basketball? Especially in Indonesia (you can tell just about you know about Indonesia baskeball)
I see basketball can only get bigger and better. There’s talent all over the world. I think LIMA Basketball League is a good thing for Indonesia. Gives people a way to get noticed and maybe travel outside of Indonesia different competition. If LIMA brings other talent in from away the world it can only get better.
